Character

I have been working on the character design for the three characters,  the group agreed on the facial influences that I would use to base the character on. I came up with characters after a lot of refining and the final characters will be based of the colour tests depending on the characters colours that the group like. I will also be adding a print to the train character and adding more shadows to the 2d line drawn character.

Thumbnails for scene 3, 4 and 5

Initial thumbnails for scene 5 the office.

Playing with colour and the wallpaper for scene 3.

The final thumbnail for scene 3 which I will be adding a bit more texture to and making it into the final concept art for that scene.

Thumbnails for scene 4 applying the style that will be used for both scene 4 and 5. And then the final thumbnail that I will use to make the final concept art for scene 4.

Scene 3 and 4 thumbnails

Below are some of the thumbnails I've done for scene 3 the 1920's-40's living room, and scene 4 which is the hallway. Next I need to do some thumbnails for scene 5 and start adding the styles to the scenes in Photoshop.

Character Thumbnails

Above are thumbnails that I did for the characters, I liked one of the face shapes from set D and tried to create three different versions of the same character in set E. After the talk with Alan we were advised to go with a more stylized look and to look at actors and people who have faces that have a timeless quality.

Initial thumbnails

Here are just some quick initial thumbnails sketching out scene 1 and 3 and just working on some of the ideas. As a group we have now split up the concept art, and I will be doing scene 3 and 4/5, while Anass will be working on scenes 1 and 2, and then Peta-gaye will be working on our characters.

Thumbnails

My group decided to create a few thumbnails over the weekend for the different scenes that we will have in our animation. We had a meeting today in which we shared our thumbnails and have split up the responsibilities for the different roles needed for the concepts.

Narrative: Influences and Initial sketches/Concepts

These are some influence maps about the different eras of our story to help us get an idea about our art direction. At this stage we are still trying to find our way around the different art directions we are using.
I have also done a quick sketches and experimented with ink and water colours as well as adding some grunge layers to get that expressionistic mark making touch which we are going for.

Style to use for the 21st Century Era: Some sort of grunge texture, expressionistic.

Style to use for the 1980's era: Bright colours.

Style to use for the 1930's-1940's era: Art deco This style if often characterised by rich colours and bold geometric shapes.

Style to use for late 19th Century: We were thinking of some sort of graphic novel style, line art and mark making touch to it.

Initial sketches and concepts

Next step is to produce concepts and a detailed storyboard enough to visualise our chosen art direction in order to make sure the styles fit and the transitions between the eras work properly.
